We monitored the foils of a RaceBird prototype for the E1 championship, with the aim of measuring the actual loads acting on the foils under operating conditions identical to those encountered during races. The data acquired enabled us to quantitatively characterise the actual structural stresses, providing direct feedback against the design assumptions. The comparison between experimental measurements and computational models enabled us to validate and optimise the foil design in terms of performance and structural reliability.
