The Ducto monitoring system was installed on a new 13,500 m long water supply pipeline (ductile iron, Ø 700 mm) in Emilia-Romagna (Carpi). The Ducto system monitored ovalisation and angular movements during backfilling operations with empty pipes. During hydraulic testing, the Ducto system monitored circumferential deformation, longitudinal stresses, ovalisation, any angular movements and temperature. The system is also capable of detecting any water leaks and their location. Currently, the Ducto system is operational for monitoring the pipeline’s performance during normal operation.

The Ducto monitoring system provided an in-depth understanding of the pipeline’s behaviour during backfilling, highlighting critical joint locations. During hydraulic testing, the system enabled the generation of detailed performance curves for the pipeline, highlighting unexpected behaviour and identifying leaks. During normal operation, the Ducto system is essential for optimising usage and monitoring critical behaviours as soon as they arise.
